Improving student learning by changing assessment across entire programmes
The largest lever that teachers have to improve student learning is to change the way students are assessed. In the UK the annual national survey of graduates shows that it is assessment, and in particular feedback to students, that is the greatest current problem. I will explain the main ways that assessment affects student learning and illustrate changes to assessment that demonstrate these influences in action.
